New mother commits suicide

JWANENG: Police here are investigating a case in which a new mother committed suicide, leaving behind a five-day old baby.

The deceased, aged 25, was hospitalised in the maternity ward at Jwaneng Mine Hospital when hospital authorities reported her missing on Sunday.

Yesterday, Jwaneng Police station commander, Superintendent Thuso Basuti said the  police had tracked the deceased’s steps from the hospital to Jwana Park with the help of night watchmen. “We found her hanging from a tree. It appears she used a panty to commit suicide,” he said. The deceased is from Sesung in Ngwaketse district, and investigations on what could have caused the suicide are still ongoing. A post-mortem is awaited.
