The Mzwinila brothers will today try to convince out-going Regional Magistrate Lot Moroka of their innocence when they defend themselves in a case in which they are accused of attempting to rob Bank of Baroda of P1 million in 2003.

Michael and Edward Mzwinila were jointly charged with their mother Elizabeth Surtee and their aunt Maureen Moseki, who have both been discharged and acquitted for lack of evidence linking them to the crime. The quartet were charged with armed robbery in which Bank of Baroda lost P1 million and in the process the bank's Managing Director Kadayam Ramasubramoney was threatened with violence.

Moroka acquitted Surtee and Moseki after the state called the investigating officer, James Baakile, to give evidence.
