MP resists constitutional calls

Nata-Gweta MP Raynor has buckled the trend in Parliament by opposing rising calls by legislators for sweeping constitutional reforms.

In the past two weeks, a majority of MPs have called for a comprehensive review of the constitution but when he rose to debate the State of the Nation Address on Tuesday, Makosha said that there is no need for such an exercise.

He asserted that a constitutional review is expensive and unnecessary. Calls for a review have increased after the High Court and Court of Appeal ruled recently that according to the constitution, the President of the country cannot be sued.
