FRANCISTOWN: Tutume police are appealing to the public for information that could lead to the apprehension of a Maitengwe man following a distressing incident in which he is a suspect for allegedly raping his ex-girlfriend.

The incident occurred on Thursday in Maitengwe village's New Sabasi ward.

Superintendent Lesego Kgosiemang, the station commander in Tutume, shared details of the case.

He reported that the middle-aged suspect, still at large, is believed to have sexually assaulted his ex-girlfriend, a 31-year-old woman. The assailant allegedly went to the victim's home, where he began stalking and physically assaulting her.

"The culprit dragged the woman from her home to his, undressed her, and then sexually assaulted her. The victim then heard some noise from bystanders near the same house when they were still asleep, and she screamed for help," Kgosiemang explained.

The suspect fled the scene when people approached the house.

After the victim reported the incident to the police, she was taken to the clinic for examination and received care for her injuries, being released on the same day. Kgosiemang urged anyone in the area with information about the offender to come forward, emphasising the importance of community cooperation in bringing the perpetrator to justice.
