Kapinga expressed disgust at the way Khama has stifled debate in the country through his iron-fist style of leadership. “He has stifled debate over everything, rules by fear and has paralysed institutions all of which play according to nobody but his rules alone,” he told a press conference where he was unveiled by the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) yesterday in Gaborone.

The former deputy police commissioner said Khama’s obsession with security institutions clearly shows that the President is also insecure.

“His predecessor, Festus Mogae used to move around the country, visit officers at the mess and relax with us without this heavy unnecessary security around him,” he said.
