Judge flip-flops on own order

Gaborone High Court Justice Bengbame Sechele has withdrawn an order he issued on Monday that forced the government to provide foreign inmates with free Anti Retroviral Drugs (ARVs).

The order was made in the absence of a government legal team. However, immediately after the order was issued, government attorneys rushed to court and made an application for its rescission.

In court yesterday, attorney Tshiamo Rantao representing foreign inmates opted not to oppose the application arguing that the matter was of national and international importance and as such the final decision should be made with all facts presented to it.
