Even though he attended the convention in the morning, Gaborone North legislator Haskins Nkaigwa was not present at the launch of the party in the afternoon.

Nkaigwa has since confirmed that he is a card-carrying member of the Alliance for Progressives (AP). Nkaigwa was at some point said to be against the idea of forming a new party, intent to stay under the UDC.

“I was at the morning session, but I then had to rush to South Africa to attend a church function. I am a member of AP, which is the only solution to liberate Batswana from the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP),” he said.
