Half-a-million suspects fail to get bail

FRANCISTOWN: Magistrate Thato Mujaji has strongly reprimanded two Zimbabweans charged with possession of about P500,000. Mujaji said that regardless of what the defence had said, this was a serious offence.

She denied the suspects bail. "Though this offence might be termed white collar, it is a very serious offence. It is my view that the seriousness has been established by the amount of money and the smuggling factor that the state has already raised," she said.
Tafadzwa Nedziwe, 32 and Themba Tshuma, 28 were initially charged with possession of stolen property. But at the mention on July 6, the state changed the charge to possession of currencies suspected as being proceeds of serial offences. The two suspects have not entered a plea.

Mujaji said that the other disturbing factor in the case is that both suspects are illegal immigrants with passports.
