A faction within Botswana Peoples Party (BPP) alleged to be against Motlatsi Molapise’s has written to the central committee demanding the party should endorse constituencies allocated to the party by the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).

The BPP faction, aligned to BPP chairperson Richard Gudu, is also demanding that the election campaigns should start in earnest and no additional constituencies should be demanded.

In the letter, the group demanded that “the party president and chairperson and two other NEC [National Executive Committee] members should as a matter of urgency join other Umbrella partners as UDC NEC members before September”. They also want a special retreat to be called as soon as possible to call to order members viewed to be putting the party name into disrepute, so they state why action cannot be taken against them. “This applies to party members who write negative articles and posts in newspapers and Facebook.”
