Gaborone private hospital alive and well again

The Gaborone Private Hospital (GPH), which was on the verge of collapse, has risen from its sick bed.

In 2003, the hospital was nearly closed after it hiked its fees by 80 percent and demanded that patients pay admission costs upfront. This set it on a collision course with the medical aid schemes, which resorted to referring members to private hospitals in South Africa.

Consequently, GPH  was forced to close some of the wards and reduce staff. 
But four years down the line, the private hospital has come out of the intensive care unit. GPH manager Shaun Ryan says the situation is back to normal.
