Cresta rejects workers' petition

Management of Cresta Marakanelo Hotels has reportedly turned down a petition by the workers' union, over the hiring of casuals to lessen the effects of the on-going strike.

Speaking to Mmegi yesterday, chairman of the Botswana Hotel Travel and Tourism Workers Union, Mpho Moloi said they were shocked when Cresta Marakanelo group human resources manager Segomotso Banda refused to receive their petition, saying they should take it to the Commissioner of Labour. "We were rudely shocked by her refusal, because we have a dispute with the company and not the Labour Department or Labour Commissioner.

But nonetheless, we are still going on with our strike until Saturday as promised," he said.
