BIDPA gives judiciary thumbs up, but...

The Botswana Institute for Development Policy Analysis (BIDPA) report titled 'The progress of good governance in Botswana, 2008 has raised doubts' about the independence of some judges.

"A high court judge, Moatlhodi Marumo, resigned in 2006 alleging an executive order used to effect the deportation of an alien had overridden his judgement, thereby nullifying judicial independence. Another judge, Peter Collins, resigned ostensibly due to executive pressure," the report states.

The report further took note of a donation of P100,000 by Debswana to the Administration of Justice for training and books.
