Batswana not happy - NEF

While international think-tanks and local politicians continue to celebrate Botswana's economic performance, increased industrial activity and general betterment of life for Batswana, a report released late last year indicates that Batswana remain an unhappy lot.

The index pegs Botswana at a very low 167th out of 178 countries.
The Happy Planet Index shows that although economic growth prevails, the rate at which this positively affects Batswana's satisfaction with the state of their lives remains marginal.

 
"The HPI is an innovative new measure that shows the ecological efficiency with which human well-being is delivered around the world. It is the first ever index to combine environmental efficiency with which country people live long and happy lives," explains the report writer, the New Economic Foundation (Nef).
