Bakgatla Dikgosi Reject The Cemetery Bye-law

Bakgatla royals who gathered at Mochudi main Kgotla to discuss the controversial cemetery bye-laws, unanimously declared as a serious threat to ‘Sekgatla’.

The recently gazetted bye-laws  to regulate the use of cemetries in the Kgatleng District, have caused uproar, so much so that before Dikgosi gathering, the councillors asked  the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development to suspend it.

But since the custodian of the bye-laws are Kgatleng District Council and were agreed to by the previous civic leader, the current one had to own it. At last week’s meeting, the council told Dikgosi that the bye-laws were necessitated by the abuse of cemetries, mismanagement of space and often disturbance of the dead amongst many other reasons.
