Audacious man admits defiling a minor

FRANCISTOWN: A 22-year-old man who appeared before Magistrate Sijabuliso Siziba yesterday has pleaded guilty to a single charge of defilement.

The man is accused of defiling a 14-year-old minor in Newstand location in December last year. The accused admitted that the he was aware that the complainant was underage when he defiled her. After he admitted to facts read to him, state prosecutor in the matter Mmoloki Motsilenyane then produced a Birth Certificate and Medical Report Form. The Birth Certificate showed that the minor was indeed 14-years-old when the incident occurred while the Medical Report Form showed that the accused sexually penetrated the complainant.The magistrate then asked the accused if he agreed with information contained in the two documents to which he answered in the affirmative. He said also said he had no defence to the offence leveled against him. Magistrate Siziba then told the accused that the statutory minimum sentence for the offence he has committed is 10 years in prison."Your plea is unequivocal and I find you guilty as charged. "I order that the accused be sent to a medical facility to be tested for HIV/Aids. "He will then be remanded in custody pending his sentencing on March 27," she told the accused.
