Appointments raise eyebrows

The criteria used to second officers from the Examinations, Research and Testing Division (ERTD) to the Examinations Council has raised eyebrows within the department, sources say.

The position that has forced the officers to open up is that of the Measurement Specialist responsible for coordinating most of the technical aspects at the division. It is said that the Chief Education Officer, (CEO) Janet Gaobakwe has said that the position that was held by a foreigner for the past 10 years should be localised and the potential candidate must be in a possession of a PhD.

 
"The director then assigned some people to choose the best candidate. When they came with her favourite person not on the list she invalidated the list," said one officer who preferred anonymity for fear of victimisation.
