Copyright Society of Botswana (COSBOTS) has revealed that the Department of Broadcasting Services (DBS) is failing to pay music royalties and the situation is getting worse.

Addressing the media recently, COSBOTS chairperson Solomon B. Monyame said DBS are the biggest users of local music content ye they cannot comply with rules. “All efforts to engage them to pay have not been fruitful,” he said. Monyame said even though they have to deal with this displeasure, they have to exercise extra caution because it is a sensitive issue.

Monyame added that they are continuing to engage the government on the issue but emphasised that they cannot bite the hand that feeds them.
