Fresh impetus needed on coal development

Opportunity cost, or the cost of passing up the next best choice, is a term fast becoming inseparable from developments in Botswana's coal sector.

Global investors are gathered in Gaborone this week and are set to meet twice again in different fora in April and June where hackneyed calls will again be made for the extraction of optimal value from the country's coal resources.

It will again be said that Botswana has an estimated 212 billion tonnes of coal, a significant portion of which are suitable for export to India, China and even the EU.
