Botswana is among the top five nations in the world where business executives would consider relocating their headquarters to another country if a lower corporate tax rate was on offer.

According to International Business Report (IBR) from global accounting and consulting firm Grant Thornton, 62 percent of executives in the country said in a survey that they would move their business elsewhere if an offer of lower tax comes up.The sentiment among Botswana executives goes against international trends as the survey of more than 3,400 businesses in 44 economies found that 67 percent would not relocate their business to another country for any level of reduction in their corporate tax rate.

Compared to its peers in the region, Botswana currently has a favourable tax rate of 22 percent while a special 15 percent rate is available for certain categories of manufacturing and all companies operating within the jurisdiction of the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC).
