Govt floats 600mw power tender

The Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources has gazetted a tender for the supply of 600mw from Independent Power Producers in an eagerly awaited move for a sector desperate for market opportunities.

 Minerals, Energy and Water Resources Minister, Kitso Mokaila told delegates at a coal and energy sector conference yesterday that the highly anticipated tender was published in the Government Gazette last week.

The government plans that half of the 600mw will be sourced through the extension of the Morupule B power station by two more units with a capacity of 150mw each. At present, the power station has four 150mw units at various stages of completion and operation.
