FRANCISTOWN: Retail giants Choppies supermarket will open a new store in Tonota later this month as it seeks to increase its market share in the supermarket industry.

The domestic bourse-listed company Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ramchandran Ottapath made this disclosure on Wednesday in an interview with this publication."We are still waiting for a trading licence and an occupation permit from the government. I am hopeful that the trading licence will be availed before the end of the week. If the trading licence is availed before the end of the week then the store will definitely open its doors at the end of this month," Ottapath disclosed.

Last September, the Choppies chief told this publication that they hoped to open the store in November or early December. It later emerged that the completion of the store building delayed the opening of the store. Fittings at the store have already been completed, the CEO further told Business Week. Choppies will hire nearly 80 workers mostly from Tonota and surrounding areas. The store manager has already been identified and also hails from Tonota, according to Ottapath."The store will also benefit local farmers as we will be buying most farm produce such as vegetables from them," the CEO disclosed.
