Venues' crisis haunts local artists

Lack of venues for shows is haunting local artists especially in places like Gaborone, Francistown and other urban centres.

This has been exacerbated by the fact that some nightclubs have stopped staging live shows following the implementation of the revised liquor regulations in 2008.

Kabelo Mogwe, a member of a leading traditional group, Cultural Spears, said lack of venues is seriously affecting musicians.  "We are really facing a difficult time," said the group's lead vocalist. He said some of the available venues are unsuitable for hosting shows.  He noted that some of the halls do not have a stage, while in Gaborone and Francistown there is no spacious venue for shows.
