Journalists tour Mokolodi Nature Reserve

Local journalists were recently treated to a tour around the Mokolodi Nature Reserve, which is just 14km south of Gaborone.

Located within touching distance from the city centre, Mokolodi offers a getaway to leisure activities that can be experienced both midweek and during weekends. Addressing journalists before the tour, Operations Manager Dennis Ramokgau outlined some of the reserve's activities. He said that apart from housing animals the reserve plays a major role in promoting various aspects of animal education. He added that their aim is to reach many schools so that they can share informative information with school children, who will in turn educate the community at large.

Ramokgau explained that they have a full-fledged education programme, which offers game drives and nature walks to students. He said that they also have representatives from education on the board of trustees whose purpose is to give advice on how to structure the education programmes. He added that they also have a sponsor-a-child initiative in which they usually take children from disadvantaged backgrounds to come on camping tours to Mokolodi.
