Mashile writes a winner

"This morning the Gods have shown us their teethWe grin and violently

These are the words of Lebo Mashile, a formidable wordsmith in her book 'In a Ribbon of Rhythm'. In poetry circles, especially in African-American poetry, they would call her a phenomenal woman.  Mashile started off as a member of Feelah Sista together with the equally gifted Napo Masheane, Ntsiki Mazwai and Myesha Jenkins. From there she became a presenter of the programme L'Attitude on SABC 1. It was during her stint as a presenter that she sat down to pen her debut book, which is a collection of poems . The 2006 NOMA Award-winning book is beautifully-crafted. It is a must-read for lovers both of poetry and the written word.

In the book, Mashile takes her readers through the journey of her life. This eagle-eyed messenger of the gods has amazing ability to look at things from different perspectives in a disarming fashion.
