BoB to stop all retail services

In a move that will affect civil servants and suppliers of goods and services to government, the retail services that have been offered by the Bank of Botswana (BoB) are to be discontinued, bringing to a stop the encashment of cheques at its banking halls.

The impending changes will compel members of the public to open bank accounts with commercial banks.

Government currently makes its payments by cheque that payees can either deposit into their bank accounts or cash over the counter at the Bank of Botswana. The latter has been preferred by most payees eager to avoid having to wait for at least three days for the cheque to be cleared.
