The league champions showed their intentions as early as the second minute after Mothusi Cooper intercepted the ball and laid to Segolame Boy who played a one-two with Joel Mogorosi but the final shot was saved by the goalkeeper.

Rollers continued to dominate the proceedings and their efforts eventually paid off in the 31st minute when Tumisang Orebonye put past Katlego Mbise after receiving a pass from the middle. A minute later, Mogorosi nearly doubled Popa’s lead with a header but it was ruled offside. Mogorosi forced Mbise into a double save in the 42nd minute after a corner kick played in by Boy. Mogorosi first had his header blocked then a shot off the rebound also saved. Popa took the one goal lead in to the half time break.
