The Southern African Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (SARPCCO) is an organ made up of member countries in Southern Africa that realised the need to cooperate at regional level in order to address crimes threatening regional peace and tranquillity.

Officially closing a two-week course on investigators in trafficking in persons at the Botswana Police College on Friday, Tshweneetsile said human trafficking has gone beyond national boundaries, therefore international cooperation, networking and joint training play a vital role in the region to fight against this crime.

He said training of this kind is that frontline officers should be afforded training opportunities in order to equip them with knowledge on how best to detect perpetration of human trafficking.

He said bringing human traffickers to justice requires concerted and regionally

coordinated efforts throughout the region, saying the training will contribute to professional law enforcement, especially in the area of investigation.

He encouraged participants to use the standardised human trafficking training manual as a reference whenever they are investigating cases in human trafficking. He also said the presentations and discussions were high quality and enrich the knowledge of the participants.

Tshweneetsile said the training would assist in the development of close professional cooperation between SARPCCO member countries. He urged them to share the knowledge they have gained with their colleagues back in their respective countries.

A total of 13 countries from the SARPCCO region attended the course.  The participants consisted of investigating officers who are charged with counter trafficking activities in their respective countries.
