The shop gave back to the vulnerable members of the community for its 50th anniversary.  Speaking at the event, Clicks Relief Manager, Noma Goepamang said they were known for offering affordable, everyday value since 1968. She explained that this year was their seventh since their establishment. She said as a way of giving back to their customers, Clicks chose to give back to people living with albinism because they had a special and sensitive skin.

“These are people like you and me. Our difference is that their skin pigmentation is lighter and different from ours. It is therefore important to show them that we care. They need special kinds of skin products such as sun screeens and otheir special lotions so that their skin can tolerate the harsh weather conditions,” she said.

Goepamang further explained that they managed to stay relevant throughout the decades because of their consistence, tireless commitment to value that has seen it become the country’s leading health and beauty retailer with more than 650 stores and over 500 instore pharmacies across South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland and Lesotho.

For his part, councillor Sergeant Kgosietsile of Marulamantsi ward applauded Clicks for its good gesture. He said the shop had made a commendable gesture towards people living with albinism. Kgosietsile pointed out that this proved that

indeed their campaigns on albinism and the challenges that  face were not falling on deaf ears as different companies including Clicks adhered to their pleas.

“I would like to call on you to research and manufacture products that can be user-friendly yet cheap for people living with albinism as our skins are very sensitive and need special care.  We have been advocating for the government to sign the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (an international human rights treaty of the United Nations intended to protect the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities). I also urge the government, business entities, community and other stakeholders to support people living with albinism and different disabilities,” he said.

Kgosi Tawana Moremi II of Batawana thanked Clicks for their good gesture pointing out it was important for different businesses, the community and other stakeholders to acknowledge challenges that people living with albinism face daily.  He called the government to include this group of people when making policies. He called the government to provide them with different skin care products such as sunscreen lotions and others.

Clicks donated P5,000 worth of skin health care products, 50 reading glasses and a P5,000 gift voucher. The products will be given to people with albinism across different parts of the country.
