Reikeletseng said Modongo, who has taken the BNSC to court over his suspension, should channel his energy elsewhere instead of scaring people away from sport.

“It is always a good thing when people like him are not involved in sport,” he said.

Reikeletseng said they have tried on several occasions to bring Modongo to the table to discuss, but he refused. He said if Modongo has the interest of fencing at heart, he should let the sport grow.

Modongo on the other hand labelled Reikeletseng bitter, because he raised some issues that expose his style of leadership.

“This is an issue that could have been dealt with over the phone, but they choose to ignore my efforts. I went to their office to try and resolve this but all they do is intimidate me with letters,” Modongo said.

the Lobatse High Court on February 16.

Modongo however lost the first round of the battle last year, when the court ruled that the matter was not urgent. Reikeletseng said they have handed the matter to their lawyers. Modongo is challenging the BNSC’s decision to suspend him.

The BNSC accused Modongo of sowing seeds of discord within fencing code. Modongo through his lawyer said the BNSC does not have the power to suspend him.

“The powers vested in your office only extend to the dealing with sport associations affiliated to the Commission and not individual members of the associations,” a response to BNSC reads.

The lawyers accused the Commission of acting beyond its powers.  Modongo lost his position to new president, Mandla Masuku during BAFS elections held in April last year.

But Modongo and other disgruntled members refused to accept the results.
