Yesterday Phalaagae, a nominated councillor for Boseja North, told Mmegi that in their area, Bakgatla are very clear that they cannot vote any party that is led by BMD president, Sidney Pilane.

Phalaagae says he has grown up in the BNF family and has not joined any party except the BNF in his entire life.

“Their view is that Pilane has betrayed their chief, Kgosi Kgafela by withdrawing from representing him. They have taken this issue personal. We had sent a delegation of branch secretaries of different parties comprising BMD, Botswana Congress Party (BCP) and BNF so that the leadership could come to Kgatleng for this issue to be ironed out, but the leadership has failed to do so. Those secretaries met with the BNF secretary general, Moeti Mohwasa at the BNF

office,” Phalaagae said.

He said the issue of BMD is likely to affect the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) if it is not addressed. In addition, Phalaagae pointed out that Kgatleng is different from other constituencies even with its politics.

He continued: “I have not yet joined any party, but I am afraid the UDC might lose members in Kgatleng because of this issue. The BCP and BNF will be the biggest losers in this matter”.

However, Mohwasa confirmed that they had received Phalaagae’s resignation but refuted claims that Kgatleng East had sent delegation to BNF office regarding the BMD issue. “It is not true. Maybe, the delegation is still going to come. We did not even receive any complaint or invitation to meet with the Kgatleng East people,” he said.
