Mmegi Online :: Korean govt donates Tablets

Dow was speaking at a ceremony held at her ministry headquarters recently, in appreciation of 102 tablets donated to her ministry by the Korean government. She said the gesture came at the opportune time her ministry is overseeing national education system transformation.  She said, even though it would be ideal to have every child own a tab, budget constraints are limiting the ministry efforts to achieve such.

“We are very appreciative of the cooperation between government of Botswana, through Ministry of Basic Education and the Korean Government, through which we receive donation such as ICT devices”, Dow said.

She further shared that it was not the first time MOBE benefited from the cooperation, saying last year November, her ministry received 130 Tablets, which were distributed to 4 Primary schools. Of the tablets that were received previously, Dow stressed that they are goodly used by both children and teachers during lessons.

Dow further said, the fascinating part about technology is that every child would enjoy it, as it can be used for every subject, hence more

interaction between teachers and pupils.

“We are very much happy with these developments which change the complexion of teaching and learning in our schools and this is the kind of partnership that we encourage and value most”, she said.

She also applauded the Korean volunteers for adding value to education in schools, saying it was reported to her that there has been some improvement in the attitudes of learners towards learning subjects such as mathematics and sciences. “Ladies and gentlemen, we are looking forward to receiving additional 13 Korean volunteer teachers for mathematics and science, then two teacher advisors. I understand some teachers have voluntarily requested for extension of their tour of duty for an additional year. This shows that they have enjoyed their stay here and the hospitality of the people of Botswana”, she said.

The Korean Ambassador, Seon Cheol Park, who is based in Pretoria, South Africa, did the honour to hand over tablets, stating that children at schools would use the tablets in order to advance they learning technological skills.
