GIM targets Diamond League stature

The Local Organising Committee of the Gaborone International Meet PIC: MORERI SEJAKGOMO

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the Gaborone International Meet (GIM) will seek to affiliate with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and Confederation of Africa Athletics (CAA).

Speaking at the launch of the LOC yesterday, Sports View Runners Club patron, Moisiraela Goya said the idea is for the two bodies to enlist the GIM in their official calendars. He said the dream is also to have the event held as an IAAF Diamond League.

“The enlisting has been done through Botswana Athletics Association (BAA). That would give Batswana competition that they have only seen on television from abroad,” he said.
