Former Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) board member, Ookeditse Malesu has been linked with the post. Finance manager, Susan Lawrence has been acting since Kemoeng left, and was reportedly keen to take up the position on a permanent basis.

Lawrence said the BFA board is working on a replacement, refusing to comment further on the matter. She, instead, referred further enquiries to BFA vice president, Marshlow Motlogelwa, who was in a meeting at press time.

Malesu was part of the team that campaigned for BFA president, Maclean Letshwiti and is currently the BFA head of security. “That’s not true, there is nothing I can confirm at the moment,” Malesu said yesterday.

A source said the BFA leadership is keen to replace Kemoeng with a ‘politically correct’ individual. The top brass is aware that the CEO position, despite being a technical post, is key to

political battles, which often crop up. “It’s not about the position, it’s about the person. You have to make a political appointment, someone who will be 100% accountable to you. The BFA leadership would want to put in someone they can trust to drive their vision,” the source said.

“We saw in the recent past where ‘KK’, who administratively has a good reputation, was deemed to be a politician aligned to the former (BFA) president.”

There has reportedly been debate among the group which campaigned for Letshwiti on who should take over as CEO.

It is reported that there are other names being thrown around, but Malesu has emerged as the group’s first choice.

However, Letshwiti will likely have the final word on the matter, as he has made it clear that he will only appoint deserving members, not just based on patronage.
