Speaking at the opening ceremony, Maduku said the fact that the games came immediately after the Rio 2016 Olympic games is coincidentally critical for reflective purposes. The games are spread across different sporting codes including volleyball, football, netball and tennis where four countries, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Zimbabwe will lock horns.
But Maduku wants other southern African countries to be involved. He said in the future they will try and make sure that all the member states in the Southern African region do take part in the games.
