Household survey encounters setback

The Botswana Multi-Topic Household Survey (BMTHS) that was started last year is said to be encountering some unanticipated setbacks, which may delay its completion. Data collection for the 12 month-long survey, conducted by Statistics Botswana (SB), started in November 2015 and is due to be completed in October 2016.

Briefing journalists on Tuesday, deputy statistician general (STO), Dabilani Buthali said there are still some setbacks in the data collection process in the form of refusals, particularly in high-income neighbourhoods.

He said another significant problem encountered is the under-reporting of income, expenditure and consumption.
