Mohwasa urges BCP to put Batswana first

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The publicity secretary for Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) Moeti Mohwasa has urged the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) to come under the umbrella project to fight the ruling party.

Speaking during a political rally at General Freedom Square in Selebi-Phikwe on Saturday Mohwasa said the intention was not for opposition parties to remain in opposition forever but to become a ruling party at some point.

He said the UDC was formed, as per the call by the voting masses hence the position was still available for BCP to join the project anytime.

“I urge BCP members to seriously introspect and make their own judgement on whether the position it took yielded any worthwhile outcomes. They should then strive to correct the anomaly in the next general elections,” he said. Mohwasa added that opposition could have won 15 more constituencies had it not been for

the BCP’s failure to join the Umbrella.

“We could have won 40 seats in Parliament and that could have averted the court case we are witnessing now,” he said.

He said it was time BCP leaders set aside personal considerations to help free Batswana from oppression and improve the economic situation of the country.

“It is not too late for BCP to reconsider its stance.  BCP members who love their country must convince their party leadership to revisit their position. The BCP position in the umbrella is still available but time is of essence,” he said. Mohwasa encouraged those eligible to vote to keep their documents safe in the event there were by-elections.
