UNHCR seeks speedy return of Angola refugees

LUSAKA: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has urged Zambia to ensure Angolans willing to return to their country are assisted before their refugee status' expire.

During a recent tripartite meeting held in Lusaka, the UNHCR,
Zambia and Angolan government representatives resolved that the UN agency should, among other things, help facilitate the voluntary return of all 700 Angolan refugees who have so far indicated willingness to go home after almost 30 years in exile. 

According to a communique issued at the end of the meeting, Angola reaffirmed its commitment to "receive and reintegrate" Angolan refugees who voluntarily return home.
