African 400m champion, Isaac ‘Iak’ Makwala made his strongest start to a season when he ran 45.49 secs to set a new record in the Quarte Bornes Meet in Mauritius over the weekend. Before the weekend, the meet record stood at 45.55 secs.

“I am quite excited after the Mauritius meet because I ran my season’s best. Ever since I started my athletics career, I have never started a season so well. I always run 45 seconds around June and July,” Makwala told Mmegi Sport from Quarte Bornes.
