Suspect begs for lifting of 'harsh' bail term

FRANCISTOWN: A man charged with stealing a motor vehicle begged a magistrate yesterday to change his P32,000 cash bail condition. Maokamedi Nkhwanana, 30 was granted bail about two months ago but he is still languishing in prison because he cannot pay the P32,000. He applied for the bail condition to be changed because it is too harsh.

"I am granted bail but I find the condition too harsh. I am supposed to pay P32,000 to get bail but there is nowhere I can get P32, 000," he said. Nkhwanana told the court that he was an orphan and getting P32,000 is impossible for him.
