Participating codes were basketball, netball, badminton, soccer, softball, tennis, darts, volleyball, karate and chess. Speaking to Mmegi Sport yesterday, BOTESSA communications and marketing officer, Duncan Segabo said this was their last biggest competition of the year. He said their focus will now be shifted to hosting the Confederation of University and College Sport Association (CUCSA) games next year.

“We are now done for this year’s competitions. We are still however left with hosting BOTESSA awards late this year, which we are yet to set the date. Our focus will be on hosting successful CUCSA games as well as working towards our association’s objectives,” Segabo said. He said the weekend games were successful in terms of the technical aspect. “One of our main objectives with this competition was to

send the message to our athletes and youth at large that sport and drugs do not go together.

Therefore, we are proud to have successfully delivered that message. Our key speakers were BOTESSA patron Kgosi Puso Gaborone and the deputy speaker of the National Assembly, Kagiso Molatlhegi,” he added.  Bracket A, which are Colleges of Education and Institute of Health Sciences, scooped 10 medals (one gold, one silver and eight bronze) while Bracket B, which are all universities and private institutions got an overall of 24 medals (gold, 6 silver and 5 bronze).

Technical colleges got 19 medals from the competitions (four gold, 11 silver and four bronze). Segabo further said the competitions were also used to select teams that will represent Botswana in 2018 CUCSA games.
