Realising he had bitten off more than he could chew he was caught between trying to swallow the rest or spit the whole out. Yesterday, parliamentarians voted to keep the lights on for a little longer, approving a P1.5 billion-tariff subsidy for the Botswana Power Corporation.

The latest funds, which will flow into the utility’s coffers after the start of the new financial year in April, represent the latest sturdy support granted by treasury to a parastatal battling to ‘power Botswana towards prosperity’.
