Notwane Is My Home Mpoeleng

He started his career at Notwane and spent at least 10 years donning the gold and black colours before he joined Mochudi Centre Chiefs. Mpoeleng went on to play for FC Satmos after relocating to Selebi-Phikwe and later joined Nico United before he finally re-traced his steps to Notwane.

Speaking following their 3-0 win over Rovers, Mpoeleng said despite spending some of his late years playing for other teams, Notwane were always in his heart. “I am very happy and proud that I helped this team gain promotion. I love this team and wherever I was, this great club has always been in my heart. I also have to thank Pio Paul because when he arrived, he requested the services of experienced players like myself,” said Mpoeleng.

He said even when he played for other sides, he still kept old Notwane regalia at his home because of his love for the team. “If you go to our training sessions, you will realise that I still have in my possession old Notwane kit. I am talking about those times when we still played in the now defunct Coca-Cola Cup as well as Mascom League,” he said.

Mpoeleng added that the experienced players helped cover youngsters. The arrival of Paul also saw Notwane register experienced players like Amos Godirwang, Mpoeleng and Boitumelo Modisaotsile. Mpoeleng, who will be 38 this year, said he still has a long way before he can actually think about hanging his boots.

“My legs have not yet signalled anything for me to think about retiring,” said the defender.

“I still have the energy and maybe after 40 years, that is when I can think about hanging up the boots.” He said his secret for staying fit until this time has been that he takes care of himself. He said if many players were taking god care of themselves, they would be able to play until they are 40.

“Since birth, I have never taken alcohol. I have realised that alcohol and other things have killed football careers at an early age. Players need to take good care of themselves,” he advised.
