Tau once served as BNSC vice-chairman, a position that now goes to Dr Nomsa Mbere, who has been an additional member.
Mbere grabbed the post from Dabilani Buthali whom he floored by 17 votes to 13. Gabriel Ngele, the treasurer of Botswana Darts Association (BODA) and former volleyball president, Sesupo Mosweu, were unopposed in the race for BNSC treasurer and additional member respectively. The department of sports and recreation voted Lincoln Goitsemang as their representative in the committee replacing Kesholofetse Phethu, while Thato Sepora was re-appointed the representative of the Ministry of Education.
In his acceptance speech, Tau who quit the BNSC vice chairmanship a few years ago thanked Kokorwe for the confidence she has shown in him. Tau is the chairperson of Vision 2016 and director of BOCODOL. He said that ascending to such a high position in sport is a challenge, but he promised to do his best. He would not talk about what he is bringing to the council, but he said he is still to consult with his committee.
'I will have to review what is already in the table and chart the way forward,' he said. Tau applauded Makgato-Malesu for a sterling performance during her tenure. He said it was through Makgato-Malesu's hard work that sports has grown.
He assured her that the foundation she laid will be developed further. 'I also urge all stakeholders to work together in pursuit of a picture,' Tau said.
The BNSC election was delayed as affiliates demanded a waiver for the out-going treasurer, Boitshoko Tsiane. It seemed many affiliates wanted to retain Tsiane. The meeting came to a stand still as arguments erupted between the election's administrator and BNSC executive secretary, Kitso Kemoeng. Tsiane's candidature was rejected on the basis that he had not signed the nomination form.
Kemoeng said the letter asking for a waiver to alow Tsiane to contest was submitted late. Netball nominated him to contest the seat seconded by golf. It was evident that Tsiane was the affiliate's preferred candidate and they fought to have him on the ballot even after they were advised they were violating the BNSC Act. Affiliates demanded that the meeting be postponed so that the matter of Tsiane's candidacy can be sorted out.
Apparently, netball was advised days before the Saturday BNSC Annual General Meeting that their application to have Tsiane to contest the elections was time barred. Netball accepted the decision, but during the meeting, other codes who felt strongly that Tsiane is the right choice decided to write a letter to BNSC asking for a waiver. Some affiliates suggested that the meeting be postponed and that a special ordinary meeting should be called in a few days.
When the elections' administrator and the general membership did not come with a solution, Makgato-Malesu had to be called to mediate though her committee had already been dissolved.
