MoE increases enrolment for Limkokwing

'We had initially stated that we would be sponsoring only 3,500 students but when we reached that target there were about 200 more files left. So we decided to give our clients who are the students the benefit,' Kgotla said. She added that they did not want to be faulted by the parents of the students who were already in possession of admission letters. He, however, explained that the institution had admitted more students because they were competing for them with the other institutions and knew that they would not all register with them.  'Some students were admitted even though they did not qualify for sponsorship and decided to try their luck,' he said.

Kgotla further said no child would be refused sponsored if they were admitted and they met the requirements. 'It would be painful for the students qualifying for sponsorship with an admission on hand and fail to get sponsorship,' Kgotla indicated. He noted that in the future, they would control admissions by specifying the number of students to be sponsored for each course. 'We do not want to overshoot and oversupply the market as it is already happening,' Kgotla said.

The department has sponsored over 10, 000 students in private institutions this year.
