Border post opening delayed

According to a letter from Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) Acting Commissioner General Ken Morris, preparations to open the post are well under way and include the provision of portacamps for office and residential accommodation.
But whilst the portacamps have been procured and are ready for delivery, the access road to the site is a major hindrance.

Morris states in the letter that even though the road is accessible by other vehicles, it has sections that will need to be widened to allow easy movement by heavy vehicles.
'The situation has been exacerbated by the recent rains as they deepened crossing points at the four streams and in the meantime portacamps are stored temporarily at Semolale Police Station until the access road has been rehabilitated,' the letter adds.

However, efforts are being made by the government to engage a contractor to rehabilitate the road while the Bills of Quantities for the road and site works for the residential and office accommodation were produced last month and selective tendering will be used in order to fast track the process.
The letter also indicates that the actual works could not start in December as most of the contractors closed for the Christmas break.
