Increase in forged travelling documents

 

 

'Most of the foreigners, who were in possession of fake ETDs were Zimbabweans. Some of them even had the same serial numbers,' he said.
He added that most Zimbabweans rounded up during the festive season were in possession of the ETDs and not passports.

'They were in possession of ETDs instead of their passports. This is a worrisome development because ETDs are only used for emergency purposes,' he said. He said the police have warned the immigration department about the problem but the situation has not improved. Efforts to get a comment from immigration department were unsuccessful as the officers declined to comment.

Meanwhile Thokweng said there was an increase in robberies, common assault and unlawful wounding in his beat during the festive season. He expressed concern about the increase saying some victims were robbed while speaking on their phones. He singled out Ozone Club as a crime spot and warned revelers to exercise caution at all times. He expressed concern about people who leave their homes and stay away for long without notifying their neighbours.

'It seems Batswana do not heed our advice of neghbourhood watch. Recently some people came to us to report break-ins,' he said.
He paid tribute to residents who joined the police in night patrols.
'We had about eight people from Sefoke ward and two others from Lengananeng ward. We patrolled with them until morning.

They were really happy and they also assisted in taking  the police to hot spots,' he said. The police boss said that thieves broke into Baba's Pawn shop and stole entertainment equipment like VCRs and music systems. 'Those items were for the customers of the pawnshop. The thieves took advantage of the wild celebrations of New Year's Eve and took the night watchman by surprise,' he said. So far, nothing has been recovered from the theft. (Sila Press Agency)
