SuperSport cancel trip to Botswana

SuperSport is reported to have received invitations for the Gaborone and Maputo tournament the same time.  A source at the club says the Maputo trip gives them an opportunity to honour their latest acquisition - Elias 'Dominguez' Pelembe signed from Desportivo during the off season.

While SuperSport has been criticised and condemned elsewhere for releasing Teko Modise to Orlando Pirates, they have been highly praised for recruiting the elusive Pelembe, hailed as one of the finest footballers ever to come from the land that produced the inimitable Black Panther -- Eusebio.

Pelembe showed that he has really come of age when he stunned a packed 60,000 stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in October with a brilliant performance. He mesmerised Tanzania's defence and from an acute angle, he centered the ball for Tico-Tico to score the only goal of the match and knock out the hosts from the race for the African Nations Cup in Ghana.

Many supporters in Botswana will certainly be disappointed about SuperSports' withdrawal but they can take solace from the fact that another South African team -- Bloemfontein Celtic -- will be in town during the same weekend of the aborted four-nation tournament to face Township Rollers.
