BMC signs Zimbabwean trio

The players are veteran international goalkeeper Chenjerai Dube and Kelvin Maseko from Division One side Railstars; and Farai Mujokoro from giants, Highlanders. Mujokoro was a key member of the Zimbabwe Under-23 squad that failed to qualify for the All-Africa and Olympic Games last year. Like Maseko, he is a gifted midfielder.

Maseko and Dube played for Railstars in the top flight two seasons ago, before the National Railways of Zimbabwe-sponsored club was demoted to Division One after the 2006 season. The two played under BMC coach Cosmas Zulu when he was at Railstars.

'Yes it is true that they (Maseko and Dube) have left for Botswana and they are playing for a team called BMC,' said a Railstars official.

'They had contracts with us, but they expired at the end of last season in December last year. This means that they moved to Botswana as free agents. The Railstars' family would like to wish them well in their careers abroad. Both served us well for many years and for Maseko, he had been with us from our time in Division One until we were promoted into the Premier League in 1997. When we were relegated, he remained at the club. Both were senior players at the club,' said the official.

The three players join the growing band of Zimbabwean professionals plying their trade in the more rewarding Mascom Premier League. Some of the Zimbabwean players in Botswana are Zenzo Moyo, Patrick Mpofu, Master Masitara, Zacharia Muzadzi and Nkosilathi Dube. Masitara used to play for Railstars, while Moyo and Mpofu played for Highlanders. Apart from Botswana, other Zimbabwean players have trooped to South Africa, Swaziland and as far as Malaysia and Vietnam.
