Zebras in four-nations tournament

Having failed to qualify for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Ghana, the four nations have decided to organise a tournament which will enable them to prepare for the 2010 World Cup/African Nations Cup qualifiers which start in June.

Botswana Football Association (BFA) chief executive officer, Tosh Kgotlele said that all the four nations are contributing towards the expenses of the tournament. 'Then, we will share whatever is made from the gate-takings. The tournament will help the coach (Colwyn Rowe) to look at some of the players in camp,' he said.

Kgotlele pointed out that they have sat down with the Premier League Committee (PLC) to strike a compromise in order to accommodate the Swaziland event.

The BFA chief said it was important for both parties to have an understanding. In the past, PLC has accused the BFA of organising international games without consultations and this affected the league programme.

Information reaching Mmegi Sport indicate that the BFA has lined-up a number of international games to prepare the Zebras for the 2010 World Cup/African Nations Cup qualifiers. The Zebras will play four qualifying matches in June. The team starts the series of friendly games with a tricky away date against South Africa at the Chatsworth Stadium next Wednesday.
