The Cheetahs were scheduled to play Chobe United at the Prisons Ground in Kasane on Saturday, but the Selebi-Phikwe outfit did not show up. Satmos failed to honour their opening game against Maun Tigers in Maun last month.
Disgruntled players had refused to use a combi hired by the management and immediately called for the return of former director, Mooketsi ‘China’ Mading. The impasse was dealt with and the team managed to honour the next three fixtures until last weekend.
Team manager, Keitshokile Moswela said he has been away from Selebi-Phikwe on work commitments and referred all questions to Mading. However, Mading said he does not have the answers and all he does is to assist the team only when he is called to.
“I don’t know what could have transpired over the weekend,” he said. “I was not told that the team might need my assistance as it is the case nowadays. I only help when they need my assistance and I have no answers to what could have happened.”
First Division North chairperson, Mpezeni Sambandawe said the situation at Satmos is worrying. He said they have previously engaged Satmos management and thought the problem was resolved.
“We don’t know now what is happening,” he said. “We thought everything was cleared up since our last meeting with Satmos. We have summoned them to answer for their failure to honour the Maun Tigers fixture this weekend.
“We will wait for their communication on why they failed to honour this fixture, but it is situations like this that upset our efforts of running a smooth league.”
Meanwhile, the weekend action produced 23 goals with TAFIC’s loss to Maun Tigers being the highlight. BR Highlanders are relentless at the summit of the log table after dismissing visiting Real Movers 2-0 at the Railways Ground to make it five wins in five games.
Motlakase Power Dynamos are trailing their former Premiership counterparts with four wins and a loss. Chouka produced an emphatic display as they thwarted Francistown’s ECCO City Greens 4-0 in Palapye on Saturday.
TAFIC, a probable challenger after fluid performances in the opening games succumbed to Maun Tigers in a goal rush encounter at the Francistown Stadium. Tigers’ striker Ononufile Setsiba grabbed a brace in each stanza to help his side demolish the home side 5-3. Three goals were scored in the first half in an interesting fashion, Tigers took the lead with two goals within the first quarter and by the half hour mark TAFIC had come from behind to take the lead.
After the break, Tigers scored three goals to bury the game.
It was a weekend to forget for the Francistown teams, TASC lost 4-1 to Sua Flamingoes and Major David Bright’s Morupule Wanderers beat GNT 2-1 to register their first win of the campaign.
